CLASSES PROCESS

PROCESS HIGHLIGHTS

For years, I studied and practiced the principles of classical and Boston School Impressionist painting. Here are some images of drawings and paintings in process and some of my students in action. Following the setting up of the composition, we make a brown paper study in charcoal to explore and establish values. A color "start" is a small painted study using color spotting to establish color relationships and leading light effects to establish proportions. The value and color studies are references for the final painting. We paint primarily from life using our studies and other references as needed. The same method is used for private classes, studio or plein air workshops, for still lifes or landscapes. I love to share my process with students who practice and master these skills to find their own voice.
